I need some info for caring for a baby blue jay chick. The nest barbarous from a tree in last nights storm. 2 chicks were inside, one is expressionless, 1 is strong and alive. The ane that died was less adult than the 1 that is alive, so I am not surprised it died. The living i is partially feathered, stiff for it'south size, prissy and warm, very vocal and hungry. I put the nest back up in the tree probably not where it was originally, the mother has non yet come back, volition she? I accept fed the babe worms and a slug, which information technology readily accepted. Information technology has pooped as well. If the Mom does not come back how can I keep it alive and enhance information technology? Does it need water or does it get enough from the things it eats? How often exercise I feed it? Tips on keeping it warm? I feel like I should at least try to assist it live. Whatsoever advice is appreciated!
Thank you

Information technology'due south illegal to. You are going to have to contact your local wild life rehabitliator. Information technology's very very illegal to even be holding that bird im sorry to say....only a qualified (and im pretty certain) licensed wild life rehabilitator should be doing what y'all're trying to do.

I'd leave it solitary (reading more than of your postal service now) and let nature take information technology's course feeding it and treatment information technology unless you're taking it to a rehabitliator isn't the best affair to do legally.

I raised all the babies that fell from nests or were abandoned...and then released them.

I purchased parrot baby food and monkey biscuits then fabricated a mash for them. when they were older I gave them meal worms so forth. Well-nigh birds require that y'all put the nutrient in their mouth. Starlings for instance will practically swallow your finger as they are accustomed to beingness fed that style by their mama. Doves, Robins and the like I fed with a syringe (need removed of course).

You can contact your department of wildlife and contact a rehabber to take the babe if y'all want to or try to feed it and release information technology. Aye it is illegal in some cases and in some states. The migratory bird act prohibits interference and so forth.

Good luck. I always enjoyed seeing them fly off knowing I had made sure they survived and were not a stray cat's meal.

good luck whatever you determine to do ,
Im a fleck of the rebel myself when it comes to orphened will life merely thats beacuse if you telephone call fish and game or what not effectually here they will say ane of two things , leave it and allow nature take intendance of it OR kill it . Never gotten any other anser from them ,,,
me "what do I exercise with the raccon caught in the feral cat trap I set "
Wild life guy " oh you become get youre self a large garbage can fill it with water and drop it in "
me " just institute a nest that was in the roof of a business firm that got bull dozed what should I do tin can you come up take them to a wild life vet or something"
WIld life guy " naw just leave em there they are pests nearly likely whatever ways"

You lot go the moving-picture show

I raised have raised 2 robins and let them get. The less hand off the amend. They are right about a local wildlife rehab person, but if yous tin not find i, you can go to a pet shop and they brand infant bird nutrient. You lot mix it with warm water. You go a syringe and feed it to it this manner. The babe bird will automatically open its mouth for you lot to feed it. Both of the birds I raised washed well on this. I just handled the bird when it was time to be fed and by the time information technology could fly it could survive on it's own. I also did take information technology exterior to forage for bugs and other things when information technology was bigger. I permit it go most where I found it. After I let it get it found a family of other robins and stayed well-nigh my house for a long time. I do know information technology survived. It does take a lot of piece of work though and a lot of time.

to offering insight on where the rehab places are coming from with their 'leave it to nature' opinion
yous tin most certainly keep a babe bird alive feeding it like above mentioned, and you can experience great well-nigh releasing information technology into the wild
.... but you practise non take the skills to teach it how to get food on its ain afterwards you release it, and you do not have the skills to teach information technology how non to become nutrient on its own..
....see what I am saying?
and so... yeah! Phone call a rehab identify, get some trained help that understand birdie development, it will take more than nutrient to give it a shot at survival
and -- they volition virtually likely ask you lot NOT to feed information technology before you drop information technology off with them

i've raised wild baby birds in the past likewise, I am guilty of it myself all the same similar others have said feeding them and letting them go are not what wild life rehabilitators do they make certain they are wild and tin notice their own food and such earlier they are released.

Also the only birds you can take from the wild (in ANY STATE) is pigeons, starlings, and business firm sparrows.

Everything else you need a special permit for to even capture to look at and release.

the reason that some places say to permit nature take it'due south form is because that is nature

I know it's hard to understand that sometimes but information technology truely is. Sometimes at that place are injustices though. LIke a doe with both her front end legs broken we called the game commisson and they told the states if she wasnt standing there for them to come put her out of her misery there was ntohing they could practice and i wasnt immune to shoot her myself. She went off and died or was killed for sure... and it's only deplorable because she could have gotten broken legs from someone hitting her to slipping on ice or falling down a cliff yous never knwo. Either way i would have perferred to put her out of her misery merely facing HUGE fines for something that a coyote would benifit from isnt something im nearly to do without getting legal *go alee*

I know nosotros cannot brand y'all do anything that y'all don't decide to exercise. You are your ain person but only exist conscientious who y'all tell, and realize that after yous release that bird it may not make information technology because information technology did not take parents to teach it what to do. Blue Jays are group birds without information technology'due south group it will be pretty alone. As well its feathered information technology may very well exist fledged and set up to hop out into the grass anyway?
